a project aimed in making the world happy through sounds I make on my laptop.

JOED

Joed is a project full of soundscapes. My own audio universe. Fueled by the notion of finding feelings through the world of music to bring happiness to those who press play.

“I didn’t grow up with the privilege of attending any music school or programs. Let alone own a laptop growing up. However, I had an ear for what sounds good and a love for electronic dance music.”

It started in college - I got a new laptop that was the perfect starter for handling multiple files of audio simultaneously. A friend of mine had shown me an audio program known as “FL Studio.”

I had some sample packs downloaded, music plugins that were of quality, and a will to learn and make countless and unlimited mistakes.

A picture of the laptop that started it all.

If one has no music experience, no idea of what a C Major chord is, and no clue to start… what do you do?

Well, if you’re a fan of music - no matter what type of music you listen to, you know what good music sounds like. If you truly think about it, one knows what a good song is. Just think of the music that moves you or that you like. Music is subjective, but what’s actually good is objective - whether you believe it or not.

If you just read that previous statement thinking ‘all music is subjective jose doesn’t know what he’s talking about.’ Let’s highlight this example before I sway your perspective… forever.

You turn on the radio and ‘Thriller’ by Michael Jackson comes on…

Whether you actually like the song or not there’s a beat, rhythm, and groove that you can acknowledge and listen objectively too. Even if you don’t listen to 80s pop, there’s a thing about the audio of the song that you can remember, that you can listen to, and identify how every sound comes together in a manner that you can intellectualize and comprehend.

Still confused? Okay, let me put it to you like this, I’m not a fan of ‘Smooth Criminal’ by Michael Jackson, but the song is well produced and performed across the board all the way from the instrumentation to the vocals. It’s a good song, but not of my preferred liking.

If something sounds good to you. Why does it sound good to you? Well, you listen to music - which means some piece of work has influenced you at least with a standard of what sounds good. Therefore, you already have an ear for what sounds good! Sounds simple but it’s a prime idea that flies over so many heads!

I listened to Avicii, U2, Daft Punk, Coldplay, The Smiths, Billy Idol, Frank Sinatra, and everything.

I possess a huge love for dance music, but there are so many different genres that I can listen to hours on end.

It started with a laptop and watching countless youtube videos.

Why do I do this?

Well, I love challenging myself creatively and creating a product that means something to people that centers around another passion of mine which is producing electronic dance music (EDM) under the name of Joed

I hope you enjoy my music as much as I did making it.

“I think music is best described as a world of feelings that we can create through audio design. Being able to create a feeling that never existed before is an amazing concept in itself as a result of what one creates. My goal is to discover as many feelings and moods out there that makes the listener feel all types of happy, nostalgia, and euphoria.”
